Occupation

Most irregular occupations (land grabbing) on Fibria properties are old, characterized primarily by small- and medium-sized groups of people seeking areas to plant and live. They are restricted to the states of Espírito Santo and Bahia and do not affect the feasibility of our operation. In the beginning of Fibria's operations, in 2009, there were hundreds of cases, which over the years were reduced by 78%.

In our lands in Espírito Santo there were three land grabbing occupations by Brazil's Landless Workers Movement (MST), with whose leaders we have already begun to dialogue.

In Minas Gerais, areas purchased by Fibria and that had not yet been planted were made available for purchase by the National Institute for Settlement and Agrarian Reform (INCRA) for land reform purposes.
