Volunteer Challenge

The Sustainable Development Goals, of the United Nations, was the mobilizing theme for the 2016 edition of the Volunteer Challenge, a solidarity competition promoted by the Votorantim Institute. The competition involves own employees and contractors of all companies in the Votorantim Group, performing social activities aimed at philanthropic institutions in the municipalities where the company operates.

The SDG is a global agenda with 17 objectives and 169 goals in several areas. It provides for activities related to poverty eradication, food safety, agriculture, health, education, reduction of inequalities, energy, water and sanitation, consumption, climate change, sustainable cities, among others.

Employees and contractors are divided into teams and choose a non-profit entity in their area. The Challenge has several phases and scores. The first three teams to complete all phases of the competition and to get the highest number of points are declared winners. The non-profit entities or public schools served by the winning teams receive a donation from the Votorantim Group, in cash, in the amount of BRL 5,000 for first place, BRL 3,000 for second place, and BRL 2,000 for third place.

Fibria participated with 157 employees from the units of Aracruz (Espírito Santo), Jacareí, and Santos (São Paulo), and Três Lagoas (Mato Grosso do Sul), which carried out 387 actions in 12,241 hours of volunteer work. A total of 14,829 items were donated to the institutions.
